Staff Representatives in Enterprise Bargaining

You will be aware from previous correspondence that the University has
recently commenced development of a new enterprise agreement.  This is
being done through negotiation and consultation with staff through
fora, regular updates, email and with a group comprising
representatives from the CPSU, the NTEU and University management.

We believe consultation with all University staff is an essential part
of the development of a new agreement.  To give staff a broader
opportunity to contribute to the negotiation process the University has
established 1 general staff and 1 academic staff position on the
enterprise bargaining team. These staff representatives will be
required to attend bargaining meetings (currently, Wednesday 10am-1pm),
staff fora and collect feedback from staff to present to the bargaining
team.

Nomination of Staff Representatives

Nominations will be accepted from full time or fractional permanent
staff and fixed term staff whose appointments finish after 31 August
2006.  This is the deadline for certifying a new agreement. Nominating
staff should ensure that their work unit is able to release them and
that their absence during bargaining meetings will not impinge
essential operations of the University.

Staff should nominate themselves by emailing their name, position title
and division/office to bargaining@mq.edu.au by close of business on
Friday 17 February, 2006. Any questions on the process can be directed
to the same address.

Nominating staff should be prepared to deliver a short (2 minutes)
statement of their suitability to perform the role of staff
representative at a staff forum to be held on Thursday 23 February.
Voting for 1 general staff and 1 academic staff member and an alternate
for each will take place at this forum. All staff attending this forum
will be eligible to vote.
